A dignified naat mahfil was held at the National Book Foundation’s Karachi regional office to mark the 1500th year of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth, drawing leading poets, reciters and distinguished guests. The event featured Quranic recitation, naat performances and poetry that celebrated the Prophet’s life and highlighted the spiritual and moral value of naat literature.
Organized by the National Book Foundation, Karachi regional office, the program was presided over by noted poet Feroz Natiq Khusro. Special guests included Syed Miraj Jami and Aqeel Abbas Jafri, a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, while Abdul Basit served as the event’s compere.
The gathering opened with a recitation of the Holy Quran and hamd by Muhammad Yousaf Siddiqui. Naat performer Qaiser Kamal presented devotional poetry, and several prominent poets enriched the program with their naat compositions. Participating poets included Afsar Ali Afsar, Dr. Faheem Shanas Kazmi, Nasir Soomro, Huma Uzmi, Azma Ismail, Hamida Kashish and Kishwar Urooj, among others.
Speakers and attendees emphasized that the life of the Prophet and the tradition of naat literature serve as powerful means for spiritual and ethical education in society. On behalf of the participants, special thanks were extended to Dr. Kamran Jahangir, Managing Director of the National Book Foundation, whose patronage and guidance were credited with making the event possible.
