The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reported unprecedented anti-corruption successes, recovering more than Rs 547 billion in the first half of 2025. This record-breaking figure, highlighted in NAB’s latest report, signals a significant acceleration in efforts to recover stolen or misappropriated assets.
NAB’s data reveals a sharp increase in recoveries during the second quarter of the year, with Rs 456.3 billion recovered, compared to Rs 91.01 billion in the first quarter. The agency has returned Rs 532.33 billion in movable and immovable properties to government departments and financial institutions, and has also compensated over 12,600 victims defrauded in various scams.
Over the past two years, NAB’s recovery efforts have yielded Rs 5,854.73 billion, representing a remarkable 700 percent increase compared to the total recoveries accumulated between the bureau’s establishment and recent years.
Key regional offices played a pivotal role in these achievements. In Islamabad, NAB Rawalpindi secured 51 Kanal of state land valued at Rs 29 billion in Sector E-11, which was transferred to the Capital Development Authority. In Sindh, NAB Sukkur recovered land worth over Rs 25 billion for the National Highway Authority and restored nearly 128 Kanal of land to the provincial education department. Additionally, the recovery of forest land this quarter reached Rs 384.27 billion, bringing the cumulative total to Rs 1,487.77 billion.
Several major case developments contributed to these figures. In the B4U case, Rs 3 billion was distributed among over 17,000 victims, with another Rs 4 billion expected to be recovered soon. In the Banker’s City case, more than 640 Kanal of land was transferred for distribution to affected parties. The Eden housing scam saw over Rs 3.2 billion disbursed to nearly 12,000 victims. Similarly, in the Pak Arab case, eight properties valued at Rs 3.9 billion are to be handed over to benefit 2,500 victims, while a plea bargain worth Rs 2.18 billion is underway in the Elite Town Housing Society case for nearly 1,800 victims.
NAB also announced it is working closely with provincial revenue departments to reclaim state land illegally occupied and estimated to be worth Rs 5 trillion across Pakistan, broadening its campaign against corruption and asset misappropriation.
