The National Curriculum Summit 2026 opened in Islamabad under the theme New National Curriculum of Pakistan, bringing together senior policymakers, educationists and stakeholders for a two-day forum to discuss curriculum reform. Organized by the National Curriculum Council Pakistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the summit aims to chart a modern direction for the National Curriculum to meet contemporary educational needs.
Federal Minister for FE&PT Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Minister for Planning and Development and Special Initiatives Mr. Ahsan Iqbal were among the distinguished attendees who addressed the opening sessions. Also present were Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, Secretary Ministry of FE&PT, State Minister Wajiha Qamar, and Dr. Muhammad Shahid Soroya, Director General of the PIE, each contributing perspectives on policy alignment and implementation challenges for the National Curriculum.
Representatives from key institutions attended to ensure cross-sector collaboration, including Mr. Muhammad Tahir, AEA NCC, Ms. Tabassum Naz Director NCC Wing, Dr. Ikram Ali Malik Chairman FBISE, Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah Executive Director IBCC, and Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University. Their participation underscored the summitโs focus on integrating examination bodies, accreditation authorities and higher education stakeholders into curriculum planning.
Discussions at the summit focused on strategies to modernize content, align learning outcomes with national priorities and equip teachers and systems to implement the new framework. Delegates emphasized evidence-informed policymaking and coordinated action across ministries and academic institutions to ensure the National Curriculum responds to Pakistanโs evolving educational and economic needs.
The two-day meeting provided a platform for collaborative dialogue with the objective of producing actionable recommendations for curriculum development and rollout. Participants signaled a commitment to follow-up work between the National Curriculum Council and relevant ministries to translate summit deliberations into concrete policy steps.
