Federal Minister for National Heritage, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, met with Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, the newly appointed Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Heritage, to congratulate her on assuming her new responsibilities. The meeting focused on strategies to protect and promote the country’s cultural heritage.
Aurangzeb Khichi emphasized the ministry’s commitment to fully support the committee at every level, reaffirming that the advancement and preservation of culture and heritage are his top priorities. He stated that institutions connected to national heroes represent the identity of the nation and cannot be dissolved. According to the minister, the Prime Minister has made it clear that institutions safeguarding national identity will not be shut down.
Khichi also clarified that the primary purpose of organizations operating under the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture is to promote heritage, not generate profit. He pointed out that, following the 18th Amendment, most relevant institutions have been transferred to provincial administrations.
Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar noted the necessity of further improving the performance of cultural organizations. She added that she has taken on the committee’s responsibilities at the Prime Minister’s request and announced that the ministry’s subordinate organizations will regularly brief her on their activities.
Secretary for National Heritage Asad Rehman Gilani also attended the meeting.
