In Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar met a delegation from the National Press Club led by senior journalist Haji Nawaz Raza and the club’s newly elected president Abdur Razaq Siyal and secretary Dr. Furqan Rao.
The minister congratulated representatives of both successful groups in the recent elections, the Democrats and the Journalist Panel, and extended his best wishes for the incoming executive body. He expressed hope for constructive collaboration between the ministry and the National Press Club.
During the meeting, officials held a detailed exchange on issues confronting the journalist community, emphasizing the role of the National Press Club as a strong voice for reporters and as a platform for promoting professional standards. Minister Tarar reiterated the government’s commitment to journalist welfare and to addressing media sector concerns through concrete measures.
Key topics discussed included the housing quota for journalists, a PSDP grant earmarked for the National Press Club building, and the rollout of health insurance for media workers. The federal secretary for information was instructed to take necessary steps regarding the PSDP grant to support the club’s infrastructure needs.
The delegation invited the minister to the club’s oath taking ceremony scheduled after Eid al-Fitr, an invitation he accepted. Present at the meeting were Prime Minister’s media coordinator Badr Shehbaz Waraich, Federal Secretary Information Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil and Principal Information Officer Mubashir Hassan.
