Recap of national pharmacovigilance training strengthening ADR reporting, VigiFlow use and drug safety monitoring across TB, HIV and malaria programs.

On 29 September 2025 the Common Management Unit hosted the first-ever national training focused on strengthening pharmacovigilance for TB, HIV/AIDS and malaria at the Best Western Premier Hotel Islamabad. The event brought together programme managers and technical teams from DRAP, WHO, UNDP, ACD, Mercy Corps and Indus Health Network to build practical capacity in adverse drug reaction reporting, VigiFlow utilisation and active drug safety monitoring.

The training was led by Dr. Seema Saifuddin, Ms. Sania Nawaz Khan and Ms. Hafiza Ayesha Hameed and combined expert presentations with live demonstrations and facilitated discussion. Sessions emphasised strengthening pharmacovigilance systems, hands-on use of VigiFlow for timely ADR submission and approaches to integrate active drug safety monitoring into existing TB, HIV and malaria programmes.

Organisers extended special thanks to the DRAP team and acknowledged contributions from Dr. Akhtar Abbas Khan, Mr. Abdul Mateen and Ms. Aqsa Hashmi, with shields presented in recognition of their support. The milestone was made possible through the backing of the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations & Coordination and the active role of Dr. Ayaz Mustafa Deputy National Coordinator CMU.

Participants reported high satisfaction with the practical focus of the training and noted that improved pharmacovigilance capacity will strengthen patient safety and programme quality across Pakistanโ€™s TB, HIV/AIDS and malaria responses. The national initiative marks a significant step toward harmonising drug safety practices and embedding VigiFlow and ADR reporting into routine public health programming.
