The National Book Foundation (NBF) and the Punjab Library Foundation (PLF) have announced a partnership aimed at promoting reading and advancing literary culture throughout Punjab. Through collaborative efforts, both organizations plan to expand access to books, support libraries and develop programs that encourage reading among people of all ages.
During a meeting in Lahore, NBF Managing Director Kamran Jahangir and PLF Director Rehman Asif discussed the foundations’ missions and explored avenues for cooperation. Jahangir underscored NBF’s dedication to fostering a love of reading in Pakistan, highlighting the essential role of libraries and the value of public-private partnerships, especially for supporting underserved communities. Asif outlined PLF’s ongoing initiatives and emphasized how provincial libraries can help achieve broader national literacy goals.
Senior representatives from both organizations, including NBF Secretary Murad Ali Mohmand and Zaheer, head of NBF’s Lahore office, also attended the meeting. They discussed plans for joint programs such as librarian training workshops, mobile library services, and reading festivals designed to encourage inclusivity and knowledge-sharing.
Both the NBF and PLF expressed confidence that by aligning their strategies and combining resources, they can achieve a greater impact. Their shared goal is to create sustainable, far-reaching programs that nurture a lifelong habit of reading and contribute to a more informed and engaged society across both urban and rural areas.
