NCCIA cybersecurity seminar in Rawalpindi briefed 4,000 APS&C FWO students on safe internet use, fraud prevention, data protection and PECA awareness.

The National Cybercrime and Information Assurance authority delivered an extensive awareness session at APS and CFWO in Rawalpindi, briefing 4,000 students on practical measures to stay safe online. The NCCIA cybersecurity initiative aimed to equip young users with tools and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.

Speakers emphasized safe internet habits, including configuring social media privacy settings and exercising caution when interacting with unknown contacts. Students were urged to treat online strangers with the same vigilance they would apply offline and to think twice before sharing personal information.

Practical guidance on avoiding cyber fraud included identifying phishing links, verifying sources before responding to messages, and being alert to banking fraud tactics. Specific warning was given about fraudulent Easypaisa and JazzCash schemes, with advice to confirm transaction requests through official channels and avoid clicking unsolicited links.

Data protection was highlighted through simple, effective steps such as using strong, unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication on important accounts. The NCCIA cybersecurity team stressed that these measures significantly reduce the risk of account takeover and personal data exposure.

The session also covered the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and related legal remedies, informing students about reporting mechanisms for online harassment and blackmail. Legal awareness was presented as an essential layer of protection alongside technical precautions.

Principal Brigadier Dr Malik described the seminar as a timely necessity and praised NCCIA’s professional approach and leadership in raising digital safety standards. The event underlined the shared responsibility of institutions, parents and students to safeguard Pakistan’s digital future.
