NCRC Meeting with EU Ambassador

NCRC meeting showcases EU support for child protection in Pakistan, advancing efforts to end child marriage, stop child labour and prepare for GSP+ review.

Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq, Chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC), met with H.E. Raimundas Karoblis, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, to strengthen collaboration on child protection and rights.

During the NCRC meeting the Chairperson welcomed the Ambassador to his new role and expressed gratitude for the EU’s continued partnership and valuable support delivered through UNDP under the Haqooq-e-Pakistan II Programme. She briefed the delegation on recent legislative and policy initiatives designed to end child marriage, eliminate child labour and ensure universal birth registration across Pakistan.

The Chairperson also outlined NCRC efforts to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse and to address all forms of violence against children, emphasising the need for coordinated implementation and monitoring at federal and provincial levels. The focus on stronger laws and effective response mechanisms featured prominently in the discussion.

Ambassador Karoblis praised the NCRC’s extensive work and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting programmes that protect children and promote their well-being. He highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s progress ahead of the upcoming GSP+ Monitoring Mission and discussed how continued cooperation can advance human rights and child protection commitments.

Both sides agreed to sustain collaboration through existing development channels and partnerships, aiming to translate policy advances into measurable protection for children across Pakistan. The meeting underlined the NCRC’s role in advocating reforms and the EU’s readiness to support practical steps that improve outcomes for children.
