NCRC delegation met OHCHR to advance child rights, review CRC Concluding Observations and strengthen national coordination with international partners.

Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq, Chairperson of the National Commission for Rehabilitation of Child Rights (NCRC), accompanied by Mr. Pirbhu Satyani, Member (Sindh/Minorities), held a detailed networking meeting with Mr. Rory Mungoven, Chief of the Asia-Pacific Division at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The delegation and OHCHR exchanged views on regional approaches to child rights and explored avenues for closer collaboration.

The discussions centred on sharing best practices in child rights implementation, learning from effective models of National Human Rights Institutions across the region, and following up on the CRC Committee’s Concluding Observations. Participants emphasised the need for practical measures to translate recommendations into policy and improved services for children at provincial and national levels.

Mr. Rory Mungoven acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its child rights institutional framework, specifically appreciating legislative progress including the Act establishing the National Commission for Minority Rights. The recognition highlighted the role of stronger institutions in protecting child rights and safeguarding vulnerable minority communities.

The meeting concluded with commitments to continued follow-up on human rights and child rights issues, improved coordination among national commissions in Pakistan, and strengthened engagement with regional and international child rights networks. Stakeholder engagement was noted with UNDP Pakistan, UNICEF Pakistan, the Ministry of Human Rights, the Government of Pakistan and the Foreign Office to support implementation and monitoring of CRC-related recommendations.
