NCRC reviews strategies for minority children protection and presents a situation analysis, pledging action against forced conversions and forced marriages.

The National Commission on the Rights of the Child convened the fifth meeting of its Working Group of Minorities on Child Rights to review ongoing efforts and set strategic priorities for the protection and promotion of minority children in Pakistan. Chairperson Ayesha Raza Farooq presented a comprehensive quarterly progress update, outlining policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement and field-level interventions targeting children from minority religions.

A major element of the session was the presentation of the Situation Analysis on Children from Minority Religions in Pakistan report. The study offers evidence-based insights into the specific barriers faced by minority children and is intended to guide targeted interventions and policy measures across the country. Delegates also discussed a draft bill addressing forced conversion, highlighting the need for legal clarity and protective mechanisms.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to confront forced conversions and forced marriages as critical child rights issues. NCRC signalled it will pursue collaborative strategies, strengthened legislative advocacy and focused awareness campaigns, working with stakeholders including civil society and provincial authorities to protect minority children and ensure implementation of recommended measures.

Moving forward, the Commission intends to use the situation analysis as a foundation for action, monitoring progress on field interventions and advancing reforms that safeguard the rights and dignity of minority children across Pakistan.
