A delegation from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, led by Prof. Xu Wenqiang together with Prof. Hong Tianhua, Executive Director of the CPJRC, visited the National Emergency Operations Centre at NDMA to explore avenues for scientific collaboration.
The visiting team received a detailed briefing on the NDMA NEOC’s capabilities and operational framework, followed by an in-house meeting with Mr. Tanveer Piracha, Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management. Discussions centred on potential joint projects that draw on NIDM’s research, multi-hazard risk assessments, climate resilience initiatives and capacity-building programmes across Pakistan.
Both sides underscored the value of regional scientific cooperation, data sharing and joint research focused on climate change, drought dynamics, ecosystem resilience and disaster risk reduction. Prof. Hong Tianhua praised NDMA’s emphasis on evidence-based disaster management and signalled interest in long-term academic partnerships, student exchange programmes and collaborative modelling initiatives.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences also welcomed the timely initiative of NDMA’s DEWTEC 2025, highlighting opportunities for coordinated research and practical capacity building. The engagement at the NDMA NEOC aims to strengthen ties that could support improved risk assessment and resilience planning across Pakistan.
