Secretary reviews NIETE progress and urges faster rollout of teacher development through NIETE and Rumi apps to improve classroom practice.

Nadeem Mahbub, Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, reviewed progress on the teacher development initiative under the National Institute of Excellence in Teacher Education (NIETE) in a meeting attended by the Federal Directorate of Education and PCU teams. The review focused on scaling structured training and certification to strengthen classroom practice across participating schools.

Riffat Jabeen, NIETE Project Director, described an evidence-based, technology-enabled approach to continuous professional development for FDE primary teachers, explaining how the NIETE app records training delivery, certification status and progress against targets and timelines to ensure accountability and measurable improvement in teaching quality.

The Secretary urged the team to accelerate implementation and spoke directly with NIETE coaches and trainers, commending their on-ground efforts and the practical impact of teacher development on lesson delivery. He encouraged innovation and sustained commitment from trainers and school leaders to translate training into better classroom outcomes.

Officials also briefed the team on the Rumi app, an AI teaching companion delivered via WhatsApp and currently piloted in FDE schools. Rumi equips teachers with ready-to-use lesson plans generated in under 90 seconds, offers real-time classroom strategies and engagement tips, and supports voice-first interaction for busy schedules. The tool provides multilingual support in English, Urdu, Arabic and Spanish, delivers personalized coaching and progress tracking, and evaluates lesson delivery and reading through teachersโ€™ voice recordings to give actionable feedback for improvement.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening teaching quality through scalable, tech-enabled teacher development and to building a more effective, responsive education system that supports teachers and improves student learning.
