No Child Left Behind campaign in Islamabad identified 3,646 out-of-school children as authorities move to enroll 25,000 in the first phase.

After days of targeted field operations across multiple Union Councils in the federal capital, authorities have identified 3,646 out-of-school children, data now recorded in the Non-Formal Education Management Information System (NFEMIS). The identification shows an almost equal gender split with 1,862 boys and 1,784 girls currently categorized as ‘identified but not yet enrolled’.

The exercise was carried out through a coordinated effort by government and partner organisations. The National Commission for Human Development led the drive, identifying 2,877 children, while JJT recorded 433, the National Education Foundation noted 157, and BECS 85. Additional contributions came from Muslim Hands and Sunbeams, which identified 78 and 37 children respectively, providing the baseline for planned enrollment interventions.

Federal Education Secretary Nadeem Mahbub said the progress is an important step within a three-year rolling plan that aims to enroll 25,000 children in its first phase. The strategy prioritises placement in FDE-run government institutions, with community schools to be used in areas lacking public facilities. Partnerships with non-governmental organisations and the private sector will support efforts to ensure no child in the capital is denied the right to education due to lack of access or resources.

The NFEMIS-managed figures form the starting point for outreach, enrolment and placement efforts under the No Child Left Behind initiative. Officials say the data-driven approach will guide targeted interventions across Islamabad as the campaign builds momentum to bring identified children into formal and non-formal schooling options.
