NPC president announces welfare fund for journalists

NPC Islamabad President Abdul Razzaq Sial announced a welfare fund for unemployed journalists at a ceremony.

ISLAMABAD: National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad President Abdul Razzaq Sial has announced the establishment of an endowment fund for the welfare of journalists affected by the severe crisis in the media industry.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the NPC, Sial said the fund would provide financial assistance to a large number of journalists who had become unemployed due to the crisis in the media sector.

Senior journalist Hamid Mir also announced that the amount from the welfare fund established by him would be transferred to the NPC fund.

Sial said the present leadership of the NPC believed in taking practical steps for the welfare of its unemployed members, adding that the announcement of the fund was proof of this commitment.

He further said that a meeting of all factions of the PFUJ would be convened soon. He said efforts would be made to bring all journalist organisations on one platform and form a strong and united union so that the rights of journalists could be defended effectively.

Sial said the journalist community could resolve all its issues only through unity and solidarity.
