See how NSU GreenMetric success earned second place in Islamabad and 12th nationally, highlighting sustainable campus growth and skills-led progress.

The National Skills University Islamabad has risen rapidly in global sustainability recognition after securing the second position in Islamabad in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025 and ranking 12th nationally. This achievement underscores NSU GreenMetric progress as the university strengthens its reputation for green infrastructure and skills-based education.

Located in Sector H-8, NSU’s main campus has been developed with a clear focus on environmentally responsible design and operations despite the institution being only six years old. Observers say the campus serves as a model for sustainable development among Pakistan’s younger public universities and signals a shift toward eco-conscious higher education in the capital.

International recognition has followed local progress. The European Training Foundation has designated NSU as a Center of Excellence in Professional Skills, while UNESCO-UNEVOC has recognized the university as a hub for skills development and innovation. In the past year NSU received two awards under the UNESCO-UNEVOC Co-Action Programme, further cementing its global standing.

Education experts attribute NSU’s rapid ascent to the vision and leadership of founding Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar and the committed team working under his guidance. They note that sustainability, green infrastructure and a focus on practical skills have been embedded into institutional culture, contributing directly to the university’s strong UI GreenMetric showing.

The UI GreenMetric Ranking evaluated 1,745 universities across 105 countries, making NSU’s performance notable in a very competitive international field. For Pakistan, NSU’s rise illustrates how a skills-driven, eco-friendly university can play a transformative role in the nation’s higher education landscape and support sustainable development goals.

As NSU builds on its GreenMetric success, campus leaders and stakeholders are likely to focus on sustaining momentum through continued investments in green facilities, skills training and international collaboration—efforts that reinforce the university’s mission and its growing influence both at home and abroad.
