Novo Nordisk Pakistan Hosts Major Event to Tackle Rising Obesity Rates

Novo Nordisk Pakistan organized a high-profile event under the theme “Unprecedented Partnerships for a Healthier Tomorrow,” aiming to address the growing challenge of obesity in the country. Bringing together healthcare experts, policymakers, and representatives of key institutions, the event focused on fostering collaboration and increasing awareness to combat the escalating obesity epidemic.

Danish Ambassador Jakob Linulf, the event’s chief guest, emphasized the urgent need for partnerships within Pakistan’s healthcare sector, particularly to tackle obesity. He praised Novo Nordisk’s efforts, highlighting how global organizations are playing a vital role in improving health standards and expressed hope that such collaborations would bring positive and lasting change to public health.

Rashid Rafique Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan, outlined the company’s century-long legacy and ongoing commitment to scientific advancement, including 25 years of research in Pakistan. He showcased the introduction of GLP-1 based treatment as a significant innovation, which has already helped millions achieve weight loss. Butt stressed the necessity of a coordinated strategy involving government institutions, the private sector, communities, and NGOs to effectively address obesity.

Highlighting the scale of the problem, Dr. Javed Akram, President of the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, revealed that approximately 38 million people in Pakistan are affected by obesity. He described obesity as a global epidemic, posing a serious threat not only to individuals but also to public health, and urged for stronger preventive measures.

Dr. A.H. Amir, President of the Pakistan Society of Obesity, stated that the fight against obesity should not be limited to medical treatment. He advocated for an increased focus on prevention, public awareness, and changes in social attitudes. He called upon the media and civil society to play proactive roles in promoting healthier lifestyles.

Concluding the event, all participants reaffirmed their commitment to work together in the fight against obesity and to take practical steps to promote healthy living in Pakistan. Novo Nordisk Pakistan reiterated its dedication to leading efforts in advancing long and healthy lives for all.
