French OCBC shared expertise at a Karachi conference to strengthen Cultural Heritage protection and boost cooperation with Sindh authorities.

The French Embassy’s Internal Security Service accompanied a legal analyst from the French Central Office for Combating Cultural Property, bringing specialised expertise to an international conference in Karachi last month focused on combating illicit trafficking in cultural property.

The event, co-organised by UNESCO and the provincial government of Sindh, gathered key international partners including UNODC, Interpol, ICOM and Unidroit to discuss measures and practical steps to protect Cultural Heritage and curb cross-border illicit trade.

The OCBC’s recognised international experience allowed delegates to exchange concrete good practices and procedural approaches for investigating and recovering cultural objects, emphasising how coordinated legal and technical cooperation can strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to safeguard its rich Cultural Heritage.

For Sindh authorities and cultural institutions in Karachi, the conference offered a platform to deepen partnerships with global bodies and to align local efforts with international standards, while the French Embassy’s participation underscored ongoing bilateral collaboration on heritage protection.
