The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH), together with UNI and leading Chinese technical institutions, has launched a new series of Online Digital Courses to boost digital literacy, skills development and human capital across OIC member states.
The virtual launch brought together senior academic leaders, policymakers and industry representatives, with participation from Mr. Cheng Shuqiang of Shaanxi Technical College of Finance & Economics, Mr. Kang Kun of Henan Institute of Economics and Trade, Mr. Wu Jiaoyu of Guangzhou Songtian Polytechnic College and Mr. Wang Peng of ITMC Technology Co. Ltd. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, underscored how modern digital education extends the historical role of learning in Islamic civilisation while addressing contemporary socio-economic challenges.
Online Digital Courses have attracted strong initial interest, with 530 students enrolled in the first phase. Participants represent 15 countries including Somalia, Kenya, Nigeria, Mauritania, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Gambia, Yemen, Indonesia, Chad, Malaysia, China, the United Arab Emirates and Gabon, illustrating the initiative’s broad reach and inclusivity.
The curriculum focuses on future-oriented disciplines such as data science, artificial intelligence, digital entrepreneurship, renewable energy and public health, aiming to equip learners with market-relevant competencies, improve employability and support innovation-led, sustainable development within the participating countries.
UNI and ITMC Technology Co. Ltd. were acknowledged for their roles in curriculum design, digital infrastructure and technical support that make cross-border delivery possible. The project highlights the value of South–South cooperation and academic–industry partnerships in advancing science, technology and innovation, with clear benefits for Pakistani students and institutions seeking accessible high-quality digital learning.
This launch marks an important milestone in OIC-COMSTECH’s ongoing efforts to promote capacity building, knowledge sharing and technological advancement across member states, reaffirming a commitment to inclusive, sustainable and knowledge-driven development through education.
