Islamabad, October 21, 2025 — Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain told the Pakistan Olive Summit 2.0 that the olive sector can become a new milestone for Pakistan’s economy, pointing to wide cultivation potential in both northern and southern regions.
The minister said achieving self-sufficiency in olive production is no longer a distant goal and that olive oil can emerge as a strong export brand carrying the Made in Pakistan label for quality and health. He stressed that a focused, coordinated strategy could place Pakistan among leading olive-producing countries.
Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted that olive cultivation will strengthen rural livelihoods, raise farmers’ incomes and promote better use of agricultural land. Because olive trees tolerate drought, their expansion will support water-efficient farming and contribute to environmental protection.
The ministry is promoting modern technology across the entire olive value chain including cultivation, oil extraction, processing, packaging and marketing. Public-private partnership models will be used to accelerate investment and establish dedicated olive clusters that bring together farmers, agricultural experts and private investors.
The federal minister said the olive sector offers wide opportunities for private investors and that increased domestic production can significantly reduce Pakistan’s annual edible oil import bill, saving valuable foreign exchange. Work is underway on a policy framework under the National Olive Plan 2030 with emphasis on research, investment, training and international cooperation.
Rana Tanveer Hussain underlined the role of young farmers in adopting scientific methods and accessing new markets, and described the olive industry as a model of climate smart agriculture that can help protect soil, stabilise temperatures and lower carbon footprint. Olives are not just a crop but a symbol of prosperity, sustainability and self-reliance for Pakistan, he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to build a competitive national olive brand.
