Government representatives, technical partners and public health experts gathered at Aga Khan University in Karachi to reflect on Pakistan’s steady progress toward polio eradication and to outline the critical steps needed in the campaign’s final phase.
Speakers described the “last mile” as both the greatest challenge and the greatest opportunity, noting that while cases are fewer than ever before the poliovirus continues to pose a risk in specific areas. Sustained coordination, targeted surveillance and continued vigilance were highlighted as essential to prevent resurgence.
There was strong emphasis on supporting the resolve of frontline workers who deliver services under difficult conditions and on honouring those who have made sacrifices in service of Pakistan’s children. Ensuring that every child receives protection was described as the core objective that must guide operations on the ground.
With committed government leadership, ongoing partner support and active community engagement, participants said Pakistan is well positioned to move closer to eradication. Empowering frontline personnel and strengthening collaboration at all levels remain vital to secure a polio-free future for every child.
