Roundtable calls for stronger Pakistan Afghanistan ties through sustained dialogue and cooperation to manage regional challenges and promote stability.

The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad convened a roundtable on 13 February 2026 to assess the current situation in Afghanistan and its implications for Pakistan and the wider region. Former diplomats, leading academics and prominent practitioners joined the discussion to explore practical steps for cooperation.

Participants noted that Afghanistan continues to face complex political, security and humanitarian challenges that carry regional consequences. While recognising these difficulties, attendees emphasised a shared interest in stability and cooperation and the need to avoid unilateral approaches that could inflame tensions.

Speakers highlighted that Pakistan Afghanistan ties remain interdependent, making sustained dialogue and constructive engagement essential to address mutual concerns and manage differences. Emphasis was placed on pragmatic confidence-building measures and regular communication between officials and civil society actors.

Observers argued that long-term regional stability requires both cooperation and mutual understanding, with Pakistan Afghanistan ties central to any durable solution. The meeting, organised by CAMEA at ISSI, was held under the Chatham House Rule to facilitate frank exchange and candid appraisal of policy options.
