Pakistan has launched a major initiative to digitally transform its agriculture sector through the development of the National AgriStack, aiming to address long-standing challenges and usher in a new era of innovation, transparency, and efficiency for farmers across the country.

The National AgriStack is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication, the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, the Land Information & Management System, and the Special Investment Facilitation Council. Its primary goal is to build a comprehensive digital infrastructure capable of resolving issues like fragmented data, unverified farmer identities, poor access to credit, inefficient subsidy programs, and limited market opportunities for agricultural producers.

Through the AgriStack, farmers will receive verified digital IDs and registries, enabling accurate identification and the creation of credit histories. Integrated land data and satellite-derived crop intelligence will provide precision advisory services for better decision-making. The platform will also facilitate efficient delivery of subsidies, crop insurance, and credit, making support mechanisms more accessible and effective.

To ensure the project’s effective and secure implementation, a Steering Committee co-chaired by key ministries has been established, alongside a Technical Working Group dedicated to data and cybersecurity, and public-private pilot teams operating through LIMS.

During the next year and a half, the initiative will focus on developing smart subsidies, launching climate index-based crop insurance products, expanding access to credit using alternative data, and strengthening links between farmers and markets through digital platforms.

The launch of the National AgriStack is seen as a critical move toward realizing the government’s vision of a “Digital Nation Pakistan,” promising to empower farmers, improve transparency in the sector, and drive long-term economic sustainability through technology-driven solutions.
