Pakistan has officially launched its first nationwide artificial intelligence competition, “Uraan AI Techathon 1.0,” aimed at unlocking the potential of young innovators, students, startups, and professionals across the country. The initiative was inaugurated by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, reflecting his vision to place Pakistan at the forefront of the global AI revolution.
The Uraan AI Techathon 1.0 provides a platform for participants to develop cutting-edge AI solutions in crucial sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, industry, climate change, and governance. By targeting these key areas, the competition seeks to address national challenges while fostering innovation and digital transformation within the country.
Describing the initiative as more than just a competition, officials underlined its significance as a national movement designed to highlight and nurture the skills of Pakistan’s youth. The goal is to enable Pakistan to take a leading role in the rapidly evolving domain of artificial intelligence, rather than remain dependent on external developments.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the urgent need for Pakistan to join the race in AI, stating that artificial intelligence is not merely a technology of the future, but a transformative force shaping decisions and economies today. He stressed the importance of Pakistan becoming an emerging leader in AI rather than a passive observer.
The Uraan Techathon is part of the broader national innovation mission, which aims to steer the country towards achieving a trillion-dollar economy by 2035 through technology-driven growth. Registration for the competition has opened and will continue via an online portal, inviting participation from across the country.
The launch underscores the government’s commitment to empowering youth and advancing the role of AI in Pakistan’s socioeconomic development.
