Pakistan Aid dispatched 200 tons of humanitarian supplies to Sri Lanka on PM directives, rerouted by sea and due to arrive in eight days.

A Pakistan Aid shipment of 200 tons of humanitarian supplies has been dispatched to Sri Lanka on the direct orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with operational support from the Field Marshal & Chief of Army Staff. The move reflects an urgent response coordinated by national agencies to assist a friendly neighbour in need.

The National Disaster Management Authority arranged a sea shipment carrying tents, blankets, boats, life jackets, de-watering pumps, lamps, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, infant milk, ready-to-use therapeutic food and essential medicines. Alkhidmat Foundation also contributed to the consignment, reinforcing civil society participation in the relief effort.

The mission was rerouted for a sea transit after overflight clearance was denied by a neighbouring state, causing a short delay. Authorities expect the shipment to reach Sri Lanka in eight days as Pakistan aid teams continue to monitor logistics and maritime arrangements to ensure timely delivery.

A send-off ceremony in Islamabad was attended by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Defence Attaché, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kiyani, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NDMA and Alkhidmat Foundation, alongside media representatives. Minister Kiyani praised the NDMA’s swift response, calling it a reflection of Pakistan’s commitment to humanitarian support and regional solidarity.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, noting the gesture strengthens longstanding bilateral ties. The NDMA reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to assisting friendly nations in crises and supporting Sri Lanka through recovery and rehabilitation, underscoring continued cooperation in relief operations.
