The government has reaffirmed its commitment to raising vehicle safety and quality standards in Pakistan, following a high-level meeting between the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, and the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) in Islamabad. Senior officials from the Ministry of Industries and Production and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) also participated in the discussions.
Participants focused on reviewing current automotive standards and exploring ways to enhance the quality of both imported and locally assembled vehicles. Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that ensuring public safety is a top priority for the government, highlighting the importance of protecting citizens’ lives through stricter regulations.
During the meeting, it was agreed that international safety and quality benchmarks will be applied uniformly across all vehicles entering or produced in the Pakistani market. These enhanced standards are intended not only to safeguard drivers and passengers but also to support environmental sustainability.
To ensure the successful implementation of these new regulations, the EDB and automotive manufacturers will collaborate closely, working together to raise industry standards and deliver safer products to consumers.
