Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, held exploratory talks with a senior Chinese delegation to strengthen collaboration in artificial intelligence, digital governance, medical technology research, and smart city innovation. The discussions highlighted a series of potential joint initiatives aimed at accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation and fostering inclusive innovation.
The visiting delegation included Mr. Cheng Dong, a prominent member of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and a leader in Shanghai’s high-tech medical research sector. He was accompanied by Mr. Liu Yuangui, Vice President of Shenlan Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Professor Zhao Shanting, a German-trained medical expert; and Dr. He Bin, a German PhD and assistant to Professor Zhao.
Among the key areas of potential cooperation was the launch of an AI skills exchange program designed to empower Pakistani youth with cutting-edge technological expertise. There were also discussions about establishing partnerships between the National IT Board of Pakistan and Chinese entities to improve digital governance and the delivery of smart public services.
Further proposals included fostering joint ventures between Chinese institutions and Pakistani startups, focusing on emerging sectors such as health technology, educational technology, and financial technology. The delegation also showcased advanced AI-driven machinery aimed at smart maintenance and urban management, offering new solutions for urban infrastructure challenges.
In the field of health, a significant emphasis was placed on the promotion of AI-driven research in Chinese medicine, with the objective of developing innovative treatments for chronic and neurological diseases through bilateral scientific collaboration.
During the meeting, Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja reiterated Pakistan’s openness to international technology partnerships that align with the country’s digital priorities. She underlined the government’s commitment to fostering cooperation that advances digital transformation and drives inclusive technological progress.
