Pakistan and China have agreed to deepen their partnership through joint research, expert exchange, and comprehensive policy reform initiatives aimed at transforming Pakistan into a trillion-dollar economy by 2035. The agreement was reached during a meeting in Beijing between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, and President of China’s Development Research Center, Lu Hao.

The new framework is designed to help Pakistan build a strong, export-oriented, and sustainable economy by leveraging China’s experience in economic reforms and scientific planning. The initiative will focus on adopting global best practices, strengthening institutional links, and establishing a scientific approach to policy-making.

This collaboration is set to reinforce Pakistan’s long-term development vision, especially the “Uraan Pakistan” program, which aims for significant economic growth and transformation over the next decade. Both countries see this partnership as a way to further elevate their relationship, moving beyond political ties to deeper economic and social cooperation.

Highlighting recent positive trends in Pakistan’s economy, Minister Ahsan Iqbal pointed out several key indicators: the policy rate has dropped from 23 percent to 11 percent, the Pakistan Stock Exchange has surpassed 140,000 points, and all major economic indicators are moving in a positive direction. He emphasized that global organizations have expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ongoing reform strategy.

China’s leadership welcomed Pakistan’s focus on developing an export-led economic strategy and reaffirmed its commitment to providing further support and collaboration. The agreement marks another step in expanding the bilateral relationship and seeks to position Pakistan’s economy for sustainable growth in the coming years.
