Pakistan is seeking to deepen collaboration with China in the healthcare sector, with a recent meeting between Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal and the Chairman of China’s Shandong Group highlighting opportunities for investment and local production of medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
The high-level talks, attended by key health officials, centered on boosting the manufacturing of medical products within Pakistan and facilitating technology transfer from China. Both parties discussed the potential for joint ventures and strategic investments that could enable the local production of affordable, high-quality medical equipment and medicines to meet Pakistan’s growing healthcare needs.
Emphasizing the significance of this collaboration, Health Minister Kamal pledged the government’s full support for such initiatives, pointing out that a stronger domestic medical manufacturing sector would reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imports. He noted that this would help lower healthcare costs and increase nationwide access to essential medical technologies.
The discussions reflect Pakistan’s broader strategy to attract foreign investment into vital sectors such as healthcare while modernizing its local manufacturing capabilities through international cooperation. Both sides are expected to continue talks to develop long-term plans for advancing the country’s health sector.
