Pakistan Deepens Climate Cooperation with Global Green Growth Initiative
Pakistan is expanding its international cooperation on climate action through strengthened engagement with the Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI), as Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with GGGI Country Representative Laura Jalasjoki to discuss new avenues of collaboration.
During the meeting, Ms. Jalasjoki outlined GGGI’s mission to support member countries in achieving inclusive green growth, noting the organization’s current network of 51 member states. She emphasized GGGI’s commitment to aiding countries as they transition to sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient economies.
Dr. Malik highlighted the need for green growth partnerships that deliver long-term sustainability and measurable benefits. He stressed that Pakistan’s priority is to develop strategies that advance both adaptation and mitigation efforts simultaneously, particularly in climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture.
The discussion also focused on utilizing carbon markets as a financing tool to drive sustainable development. Dr. Malik called attention to the importance of bridging the viability gap in carbon market mechanisms and welcomed GGGI’s offer of technical support in this area.
Both sides explored further cooperation to enhance Pakistan’s capacity for climate adaptation and mitigation, with particular attention to agriculture and nature-based solutions. Dr. Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with international partners like GGGI to accelerate the country’s transition toward a green and resilient economy.
