TB review concludes guiding Pakistan's TB surveillance and National Strategic Plan with WHO collaboration and strategic recommendations.

The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, through the Common Management Unit for AIDS, TB and Malaria and in collaboration with the World Health Organization, carried out a Tuberculosis Epidemiological Review Mission from 9–16 July 2025. The mission culminated in a high-level debriefing at the Ministry where key findings and strategic recommendations were presented to guide future TB surveillance and programmatic planning.

As part of the in-country work the mission team travelled to Lahore and held a coordination meeting with the Director General Health Punjab at the DG Health Office to align provincial actions. Field visits were conducted to primary TB care and diagnostic sites to assess service quality, review data systems, and evaluate private sector engagement in case detection and management.

Findings from the TB review will inform the development of Pakistan’s upcoming National Strategic Plan for TB and will shape a future grant proposal to the Global Fund. The assessment focused on strengthening surveillance, improving data-driven decision making, and identifying opportunities to expand collaboration between public and private providers.

The recommendations emerging from the mission are intended to support targeted improvements in diagnostic integration, programmatic planning, and resource mobilisation. Continued coordination among the Ministry, the CMU, and WHO is expected to be central to translating the TB review outcomes into practical steps for reducing the tuberculosis burden in Pakistan.
