Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to deepen cooperation in agricultural research, capacity building, seed improvement, livestock development, and water management technologies. The agreement was reached during a significant meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Egypt’s Ambassador Dr. Ehab Mohamed.
During the meeting, Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain praised Egypt’s expertise in arid agriculture and drip irrigation technology. Highlighting Egypt as a global leader with extensive experience in managing water scarcity through modern irrigation methods, Hussain emphasized that Pakistan could greatly benefit from implementing similar technologies for improved agricultural productivity.
Both sides agreed to collaborate more closely, particularly in areas such as seed technology enhancement, agricultural research, and the strengthening of farmers’ capacities. Minister Hussain expressed his belief that a sustainable partnership with Egypt would usher in a new era of agricultural development for Pakistan, benefiting the farming community directly.
Describing Egypt’s advances in climate-smart technologies as commendable and worthy of emulation, Minister Hussain highlighted the urgent need for Pakistan to adopt similar technologies to counter climate challenges and enhance agricultural resilience. He also noted that Pakistan would leverage Egyptian institutions’ vast experience in agricultural research, particularly with respect to improving seed quality and productivity.
Additionally, the minister stated that the Egyptian model of wheat storage management could be effectively replicated in Pakistan to reduce post-harvest losses, a challenge critical to achieving food security.
Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain added that Egypt would also be a key partner in Pakistan’s strategy to access international halal meat markets, further underscoring the importance of bilateral cooperation. He mentioned that improvement in livestock sectors and adoption of modern processing standards through collaborative efforts would bolster Pakistan’s export potential significantly.
Reiterating the importance of global cooperation for agricultural self-reliance, Minister Hussain called for closer international partnerships to improve overall food security standards. Strengthening ties with Egypt, he underscored, will directly uplift Pakistani farmers by enhancing productivity, modernizing agricultural practices, and creating opportunities in global markets.
