Pakistan reaffirmed its longstanding ties and commitment to deepening collaboration with Egypt during a ceremony celebrating Egypt’s National Day in Islamabad. Representing the Prime Minister and the citizens of Pakistan, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, conveyed warm congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian people, highlighting the historical bonds, ongoing bilateral engagement, and promising avenues for future cooperation between the two nations.
Addressing an audience gathered at the Serena Hotel Islamabad, Minister Hussain described the celebration as an honour and privilege, expressing heartfelt felicitations from the Government and people of Pakistan. He praised Egypt’s historical transformation, noting the revolution’s inspiring message that resonated throughout the Arab and Muslim world, promoting ideals of sovereignty, self-determination, and development.
Minister Hussain emphasized that the diplomatic relationship between Egypt and Pakistan, established in 1948, has continuously strengthened and diversified. He stated that today, bilateral ties cover an array of fields, including political dialogue, defence cooperation, trade partnerships, cultural engagements, and educational exchanges, reflecting a comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership.
Acknowledging Egypt’s principled stand on international and regional issues, the Minister expressed special gratitude for Egypt’s unwavering and brotherly support regarding the right of self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He commended Egypt’s role in consistently aligning with Pakistan on this and other critical global matters.
The Minister also highlighted the strength of Egypt–Pakistan cooperation in major international forums, such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement, and the United Nations. He noted that both nations have upheld shared positions promoting peace, justice, and respect for sovereignty on these global platforms.
Drawing attention to recent efforts in reviving the Pakistan–Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), Minister Hussain stated that both governments are close to finalizing several bilateral agreements spanning trade, agriculture, higher education, and cultural exchanges. These agreements, he underscored, reflect a long-standing commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.
Minister Hussain particularly praised Egypt’s notable advancements in agriculture and called for enhanced cooperation in agricultural sciences, seed improvement, arid-zone farming practices, drip irrigation, and climate-smart agriculture. He stressed the significant opportunities to learn from Egypt’s proven expertise in sustainable agriculture and innovative water management practices.
Expressing sincere appreciation for Egypt’s generosity and solidarity during humanitarian crises, Minister Hussain thanked Egypt for providing timely medical assistance to Pakistan during the COVID-19 pandemic. He recognized this support as indicative of the brotherly spirit binding the two nations.
In his capacity as Minister for National Food Security and Research, Minister Hussain actively encouraged joint initiatives between Pakistan and Egypt focused on food security, biotechnology, and sustainable agricultural development. He noted the potential for meaningful partnerships benefiting research institutions and the private sectors in both countries, based on shared experiences with water scarcity and sustainable agricultural strategies.
Minister Hussain specifically highlighted the valuable contributions of the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture (EICA), acknowledging its role in offering training opportunities to Pakistani professionals in diverse fields, including food technology, irrigation systems, and rural development.
Concluding his remarks, Minister Hussain offered warm congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the Government and people of Egypt, and expressed prayers for Egypt’s continued prosperity, stability, and progress. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its historical bond with Egypt, emphasizing the mutual desire to unlock the full potential of this partnership, for the benefit of both countries as well as the wider Muslim Ummah.
