The Pakistan Engineering Council has signed a landmark agreement with leading Chinese firms under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to strengthen the skills and capacity of Pakistani engineers. The deal includes hands-on training for 100 engineers at the Thar Coal Block-1 project over five years, a scholarship fund of 350 million rupees to support 175 students pursuing higher studies, exchange programs for engineering training in China’s energy sector, and the launch of online Chinese language courses to improve communication and learning.
Under the training component, 100 Pakistani engineers will receive practical, on-site instruction at the Thar Coal Block-1 power project over a five-year period. The program is designed to give participants direct experience with large-scale power-generation technologies and project operations, preparing them for advanced roles in Pakistan’s energy sector.
A dedicated scholarship fund of 350 million rupees will provide financial support to 175 deserving students to pursue higher education in engineering and related fields. Organizers say the scholarships are intended to build a stronger domestic talent pipeline and help meet long-term industrial and energy needs.
The agreement also establishes exchange programs that will enable Pakistani engineers to train in China’s energy sector, exposing them to international best practices and technologies. To facilitate collaboration and learning, the partners will introduce online Chinese language courses aimed at improving communication between Pakistani engineers and Chinese counterparts.
The Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council described the agreement as a milestone for practical training that will create new career pathways and international exposure for Pakistani engineers. Engineer Waseem Nazir said the initiative will play a vital role in advancing Pakistan’s energy and industrial development by cultivating skilled professionals.
The collaboration brings together Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company, Sino Sindh Resources, and Shanghai Electric Engineering Consulting Company. The agreement was signed during the Prime Minister’s visit to China at a business-to-business conference and forms part of ongoing cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework. Officials expect the partnership to accelerate technical capacity building and support future energy and infrastructure projects.
