The Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable and affordable supply of fertilizers for farmers following a meeting with Mr. Jahangir Piracha, Chief Executive Officer of Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFCL). The discussions focused on expanding availability, controlling prices, and preventing practices that disrupt the market and hinder agricultural productivity.
During the meeting, both parties addressed the critical challenges facing Pakistan’s fertilizer sector, placing particular emphasis on the timely delivery of fertilizers ahead of upcoming crop seasons. Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed the necessity of making fertilizers accessible to farmers throughout the country, especially those in remote areas, while maintaining rigorous quality controls. He voiced concerns about hoarding and black marketing, warning that such practices threaten market stability and place additional burdens on the farming community.
The Minister highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, noting that any interruption in fertilizer supply could negatively affect crop yields and food security. He pledged that the Ministry would continue to collaborate closely with industry leaders to strengthen supply chains, promote domestic production, and introduce policies that support greater efficiency and benefit farmers directly.
Mr. Jahangir Piracha assured government officials of FFCL’s full cooperation with government policies and reiterated the company’s responsibility to meet the agricultural sector’s needs reliably and at fair prices.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to enhance public-private partnerships, aiming for sustainable sector growth and ongoing support for farmers through consistent access to quality agricultural inputs.
