CEO of Helion Pakistan Limited discusses healthcare improvements with Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, highlighting population growth, clean water initiatives, and healthcare reforms.

In a recent meeting, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Helion Pakistan Limited met with Minister of Health Mustafa Kamal to discuss collaboration and initiatives aimed at improving Pakistan’s healthcare system. The CEO detailed his organization’s contributions and commitment to advancing the pharmaceutical sector in the country.

Minister Mustafa Kamal stressed the importance of collective efforts and collaboration, emphasizing that unified work by all stakeholders is necessary to achieve substantial improvements in Pakistan’s healthcare sector. He highlighted the growing population as a significant challenge, pointing out that rapid population growth is undermining national planning and development strategies.

Expressing concern, Minister Kamal warned that if current trends persist, Pakistan will become the fourth most populous country globally by 2030. He noted that Pakistan’s current fertility rate stands at 3.6 percent, underscoring the urgent need to reduce this number to a lower and more manageable target of 2 percent.

Addressing public health infrastructure, Mustafa Kamal revealed that Pakistan lacks a comprehensive sewage treatment system. According to him, approximately 68 percent of health issues in the country are directly attributable to contaminated drinking water. To address this alarming statistic, Kamal underscored clean drinking water as a top governmental priority and confirmed the implementation of sewage treatment projects designed to provide citizens with access to safe water.

Minister Mustafa Kamal also focused on strengthening the country’s primary healthcare system, describing the existing infrastructure as weak and inadequate. To resolve this issue, the government is introducing telemedicine initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and effectiveness of healthcare. “Through telemedicine programs, we will bring doctors and medications right to people’s doorsteps,” Kamal stated, aiming to alleviate pressure from large hospitals currently experiencing continuously increasing patient loads.

Further outlining the government’s healthcare agenda, Minister Kamal informed that a comprehensive roadmap has been developed to strengthen and streamline the healthcare sector. He firmly endorsed preventive healthcare practices, stressing the principle “prevention is better than cure,” and reiterated the government’s resolve to reduce the occurrence of illnesses through proactive public health measures.

Mustafa Kamal concluded by noting that significant reforms and structural improvements are being initiated to revolutionize and uplift Pakistan’s health sector, ensuring a robust system capable of providing quality healthcare services for all citizens.
