Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has called for the modernization of Pakistan’s agriculture sector through the adoption of hybrid seed technology and innovative farming practices. The remarks came during a high-level meeting with a delegation from Corteva Agriscience (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., led by Southeast Asian Commercial Director Bryce Sturgess.

During the meeting, the Corteva delegation introduced their hybrid seed technology, highlighting its potential to boost agricultural productivity by up to 32 percent. The company also shared details of its investment plans and ongoing initiatives within Pakistan’s agriculture sector.

Highlighting the urgent need to address challenges such as food security, climate change, and rising population pressures, Hussain underscored that embracing advanced technologies like hybrid seeds, coupled with better agronomic practices, could significantly increase farmers’ earnings and reduce crop losses. He noted that such measures are essential to improving the country’s self-sufficiency in food production.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to fostering agricultural innovation through public-private partnerships and supporting private sector investment. He assured Corteva of the Ministry’s full cooperation to facilitate the implementation of new ideas and the promotion of hybrid seed usage across Pakistan.

Hussain also emphasized the wider benefits of these efforts, such as strengthening rural economies, creating new jobs, and enhancing Pakistan’s agricultural export potential. He stressed that future policies would prioritize farmers, focusing on advanced technologies, greater mechanization, and climate-smart solutions to ensure the country’s agriculture sector remains competitive.

Commending Corteva’s initiatives in Pakistan, Hussain expressed optimism that such collaborations will help transform the country’s agriculture into a more productive, sustainable, and globally competitive industry.
