Internet outage limits Facebook and X access across Pakistan as PTCL cites submarine cable repeater repair starting 14 October 2025; users report slow service.

Users across Pakistan reported interruptions to internet and social media services on 14 October 2025, with many unable to reach Facebook and X except via VPN. Major providers including PTCL, Ufone and Zong registered reduced speeds and restricted access, while Nayatel customers said they continued to use social platforms without notable problems.

Most complaints came from Lahore, but users in Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Multan also reported slow or partial connectivity. Several PTCL subscribers additionally reported problems sending and receiving messages on WhatsApp, underlining the wider impact of the internet outage on everyday communication.

PTCL issued a statement saying the disruption is linked to repair work on a faulty repeater in a submarine cable managed by an international consortium. The company said, ‘the repair will begin on 14 October 2025 at 11:00 and may continue for about 18 hours, during which customers may face slow or intermittent internet service,’ and apologized for the inconvenience.

No official comment has yet come from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority or the Ministry of Information Technology. Industry sources warned the repair could affect internet routing beyond Pakistan because many local routes rely on the same undersea cables.

Users on social platforms noted that similar interruptions have occurred several times in recent months, disrupting online businesses, education and digital communication. The ongoing internet outage has renewed calls for diversified international connectivity and faster contingency measures from service providers.
