Ireland’s Ambassador Mary O’Neill met with Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadiq Malik to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation on climate action, renewable energy and green innovation. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration on sustainable development projects, improve access to international environmental funds, and support youth-led green startups and eco-friendly innovations.
During the meeting, Dr. Musadiq Malik emphasized that global responses to environmental challenges are shifting from multilateral frameworks toward more bilateral and unilateral measures. He warned that achieving self-reliance remains a major challenge for developing countries and said the international community has so far fallen short of meeting its environmental targets.
The Ministry of Climate Change committed to boosting institutional capacity to secure and effectively use international environmental funds. This, Dr. Malik said, is essential for implementing national climate strategies and scaling up green projects.
Both officials highlighted the importance of empowering youth. The ministry announced plans for special measures to support green startups led by young entrepreneurs and to promote environmentally friendly innovations that contribute to sustainable development.
Ambassador Mary O’Neill expressed Ireland’s readiness to expand cooperation in renewable energy and green technologies. The two countries concluded the meeting with an agreement to increase joint efforts on sustainable development initiatives and green projects.
