Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met with Irish Ambassador Mary O’Neill at the Parliament House, where both sides emphasized the need to strengthen parliamentary ties and enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Ireland. The meeting covered a range of issues of mutual interest, with particular focus on bolstering collaboration at the parliamentary level.

During the conversation, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the severe impact of recent floods in Pakistan, noting that the country is among those most affected by climate change, despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions. He explained that the current floods have caused much more devastation than those experienced in 2022, largely due to torrential rainfall and water flowing in from neighboring India. The speaker called for increased joint efforts to tackle climate change and natural disasters, stressing that international cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy are essential in building climate resilience and effective disaster management strategies.

Ambassador Mary O’Neill expressed deep sympathies over the loss of life and property in Pakistan caused by the floods. She reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to support recovery and rehabilitation efforts for the affected communities. Additionally, Ambassador O’Neill praised the Pakistani diaspora in Ireland, particularly their notable contributions in the healthcare sector, describing their role as exemplary.

Both officials agreed that closer parliamentary engagement can pave the way for broader bilateral cooperation and help address shared global challenges.
