Ms. Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, met with the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, at the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad to discuss greater parliamentary cooperation and the establishment of a new international parliamentary forum.

During their meeting, Ms. Khar introduced the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a recently formed platform aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration among the world’s national parliaments. She highlighted that the ISC has successfully brought together presiding officers from 45 legislatures worldwide. Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Yousuf Raza Gillani, was unanimously elected as the inaugural President of the ISC following elections held in Malaysia.

Ms. Khar extended a formal invitation to Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, President of the Italian Senate, to attend the ISC’s first session, scheduled to take place in Islamabad. The event will focus on the key theme of Peace, Stability and Security, encouraging parliamentary leaders to engage in discussions on global challenges. She also outlined the event’s structure, which will include thematic sessions and high-level exchanges among various international delegations.

Ambassador Armellin welcomed the initiative and discussed opportunities for further institutional collaboration between Pakistan and Italy. Both sides expressed optimism that Italy’s participation in the ISC will deepen the dialogue and strengthen the relationship between their respective legislative bodies.
