Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a committee meeting in Islamabad to finalize the agenda for the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Malaysia, focusing on expanding trade and technical cooperation in agriculture, food security, and related technologies. The discussion prioritized strategies to boost Pakistan’s agricultural exports—especially Halal meat, rice, fruits, and value-added agro-products—while exploring research partnerships and a proposed Pakistan-Malaysia Business Summit to strengthen B2B links.
Senior officials from relevant ministries and departments attended the meeting to review proposals aimed at enhancing export ties with Malaysia. The committee examined market requirements and trade prospects in detail, identifying Malaysia as an important destination for Pakistan’s agricultural commodities and processed food products.
A central aim of the meeting was to develop a robust export promotion strategy. Participants emphasized promoting Halal-certified meat, high-quality rice, fresh fruits, and value-added agro-based products tailored to Malaysian demand. The group noted Pakistan’s comparative advantage as a major agricultural producer and the need to better align product standards and packaging with international market expectations.
The minister stressed the importance of modern research, innovation, and value addition to increase the international competitiveness of Pakistan’s agricultural sector. Officials agreed to pursue technical cooperation and knowledge-sharing with Malaysian counterparts to boost productivity, meet quality standards, and strengthen food security.
Plans were discussed to organize a Pakistan-Malaysia Business Summit during the Prime Minister’s visit. The summit is intended to provide a platform for business-to-business linkages between agricultural producers, food exporters, and investors from both countries, creating new export opportunities for Pakistani farmers and agribusinesses, particularly in the Halal foods sector.
Concluding the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting agriculture-led exports and using the Malaysia visit to secure long-term partnerships in food security, research, and sustainable farming. He expressed confidence that the visit’s outcomes would deepen bilateral ties and contribute to the prosperity of Pakistan’s farmers and the national economy.
