Three Commodores Promoted to Rear Admiral in Pakistan Navy

Three senior officers of the Pakistan Navy have been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, recognizing their distinguished service and leadership in various key roles. Commodore Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan, Commodore Asim Sohail Malik, and Commodore Sohail Ahmad Azmie have all advanced from commodore to rear admiral, further strengthening the Navy’s strategic command.

Rear Admiral Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan, commissioned into the Supply Branch in 1993, has built an impressive career within the Pakistan Navy. A graduate of both the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, and the National Defence University, Islamabad, he has held several important positions such as Commanding Officer General Stores Depot, Commanding Officer PNS RAZA, Director Procurement (Navy), and Directing Staff at PN War College. He also served as Director Pay, Pension & Accounts, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Education), and currently holds the post of Director General Munitions Productions at the Ministry of Defence Productions in Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Asim Sohail Malik, who joined the Operations Branch in 1995, is a graduate of multiple military institutions, including the Pakistan Navy War College, the National Defence University, the Defence Services Command & Staff Course in Bangladesh, and the Defence & Strategic Studies Course in China. He has served as Commanding Officer of PNS ZARRAR and PNS SHAMSHEER, Commander of the 9 Auxiliary and Mine Warfare Squadron, and Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet. His roles at Naval Headquarters have included Director Operational Research, Director Naval Operations, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operational Plan), and he has also commanded the Combined Task Force 150 at the Combined Maritime Forces in Bahrain. He is currently serving as Director General C4I at Naval Headquarters Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie was commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1996 and is a graduate of Britannia Royal Naval College in the UK, as well as the Pakistan Navy War College and National Defence University. His notable appointments include Directing Staff at the Navy War College, Commanding Officer of PNS NASR, Commander AUXMIN – 9 Squadron, Commandant of Pakistan Naval Academy, and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operational Plans). He has also served as Commander Combined Task Force 151 in Bahrain, Deputy Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College, and currently holds the roles of Commander Central Punjab and Commandant Pakistan Navy War College Lahore.

In recognition of their exceptional contributions to the Pakistan Navy, all three officers have received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military), one of the nation’s high military honors.
