Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met the Ambassador of Palestine in Islamabad to discuss Pakistan Palestine relations, the regional situation, post-ceasefire peace efforts and ongoing humanitarian assistance initiatives.
The Chairman warmly welcomed the Ambassador and reaffirmed that the people and Parliament of Pakistan stand in complete solidarity with the people of Palestine, strongly condemning Israel’s aggression, grave human rights violations and the massacre of innocent civilians.
Recalling his tenure as Prime Minister, he reiterated that he has consistently supported the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people and raised Pakistan’s voice against atrocities at international forums. He paid rich tribute to the courage and resilience of the Palestinian people, describing their sacrifices as a defining chapter in their history.
Mr Gilani said the recent ceasefire offers a ray of hope and an important step towards lasting peace in the region. He stressed that Pakistan will continue to seek a just resolution and considers an independent, viable and contiguous State of Palestine in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and pre-1967 borders to be central to durable peace.
He noted Pakistan’s constructive role at the United Nations, the OIC, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Non-Aligned Movement in championing Palestinian rights. The Ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s assistance to Gaza and informed the Chairman that Pakistani universities are providing higher education opportunities to Palestinian students.
Urging unity across the Muslim world, the Chairman called on fellow Muslim countries to raise a collective voice for Palestine, saying the matter transcends national politics and is a cause of conscience for the Ummah. He reaffirmed that Pakistan will remain shoulder-to-shoulder with its Palestinian brothers, offering political, diplomatic, moral and humanitarian support until the realisation of their just cause.
