At the OIC Contact Group meeting Pakistan urged unconditional humanitarian funding, trade revival and concrete action against terrorism to stabilise Afghanistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar addressed the first meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stability and prosperity in the brotherly country.

He warned that Afghanistan cannot be left isolated and urged OIC members to secure unconditional humanitarian funding, revive trade and banking systems and enhance regional connectivity so that livelihoods and cross-border commerce can resume without hindrance. He called for sustained dialogue to ensure compliance with international obligations while protecting the rights of Afghans.

The minister voiced grave concern over terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil and described their actions as a direct threat to regional peace and security. He pressed Afghan authorities to take concrete and verifiable action against groups that mount cross-border attacks, stressing that neighbouring states must see measurable steps to build trust and reduce tensions.

To translate intent into action, he proposed a working group of OIC experts to chart a clear roadmap for Afghanistan’s stability, saying lasting peace will depend on sincerity, mutual respect and political will from all stakeholders. The proposed expert mechanism under the OIC Contact Group aims to coordinate humanitarian, economic and security measures regionally.
