Executive Director of the Social Sector Development Organisation (SSDO), Syed Kausar Abbas, was honoured to represent Pakistan as a panelist at the UN Constructive Dialogue on Smuggling of Migrants organized by UNODC on October 13, 2025, at the Vienna International Centre in Austria.
Speaking on legislative approaches and challenges related to migrant smuggling, Syed Kausar Abbas engaged with global experts, government representatives and civil society leaders to share Pakistan’s perspective and learn about regional and international best practices. The panel explored gaps in existing laws, the importance of victim-centred protections and the need for enhanced cross-border cooperation to curb smuggling and trafficking in persons.
The dialogue reiterated that stronger legislative frameworks and coordinated action are essential to protect lives and dignity of vulnerable people moving across borders. Pakistan’s participation reflected a commitment to translate the dialogue’s insights into practical cooperation and improved protection mechanisms. SSDO expressed gratitude to UNODC for the opportunity to contribute to advancing global collaboration on migrant smuggling and trafficking in persons.
