The first-ever Pakistan Rice Road Show in Accra brought together 28 top Pakistani rice exporters and more than 150 Ghanaian importers in an effort to strengthen trade ties and support food security in West Africa. Organized under the theme “Pakistan Rice: Powering West Africa’s Food Security,” the event showcased Pakistan’s status as the world’s fourth largest rice exporter, with 5.5 million tons of rice worth $3.2 billion exported in the last fiscal year.

Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, attended as chief guest, underscoring the importance of the partnership for both countries. Pakistani companies highlighted high-quality Basmati and milled rice varieties particularly suited for popular Ghanaian dishes such as Jollof and Waakye.

During the event, Ghanaian regulatory authorities provided detailed information on import procedures and quality standards through presentations from the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). Officials from both nations discussed the potential for technology transfers, joint ventures, and the creation of sustainable, long-term business partnerships within the rice industry.

The road show wrapped up with a series of business-to-business meetings, laying the groundwork for future collaborations. Organizers expect these initiatives to not only boost bilateral trade but also enhance Ghana’s food security through access to affordable, high-quality rice and increased cooperation in agriculture.
