Barrister Danyal Chaudhary, convener of the Pakistan–Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group and Parliamentary Secretary for Information & Broadcasting, met with Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dan Stoenescu in Islamabad to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties across parliamentary, cultural, educational and media sectors. The two officials agreed to pursue concrete steps to expand parliamentary cooperation, cultural exchange, media partnerships and people-to-people links.
Chaudhary expressed appreciation for Romania’s ongoing support and cordial relations with Pakistan and stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy, economic engagement, cultural exchange and media collaboration. Both sides identified the Pakistan–Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group as a primary platform for enhancing inter-parliamentary dialogue and for identifying new areas of trade and economic cooperation.
Media cooperation emerged as a central theme of the meeting. Ambassador Stoenescu outlined efforts to build partnerships with the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation to promote cultural understanding and improve information exchange. He highlighted potential collaborations between Radio Romania and Radio Pakistan, and between Romania TV and Pakistan Television (PTV), as important channels for broader cultural and informational outreach.
Cultural and educational initiatives were also discussed in detail. The ambassador briefed Chaudhary on the launch of opera singing courses at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, organized with Romanian support, a program Chaudhary praised for advancing artistic development and cultural exchange. The embassy is also working with Pakistani academic institutions to introduce Romanian language courses, with the first program slated to begin at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad. These measures aim to widen cultural cooperation and create pathways for students to explore academic opportunities in Romania.
Chaudhary proposed producing a documentary, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, to showcase the Romanian Embassy’s work and highlight milestones in bilateral relations; Ambassador Stoenescu welcomed the idea. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to formalize people-to-people linkages, strengthen cultural ties and expand parliamentary exchanges to further advance bilateral diplomacy.
