Pakistan Explores Industrial Cooperation with Russia at INNOPROM

A senior Pakistani delegation led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, visited the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, aiming to explore opportunities for enhanced industrial cooperation and investment between the two countries. During their participation in Russia’s prestigious INNOPROM Industrial Forum, the delegation engaged in productive discussions and meetings with prominent Russian officials and business representatives, particularly focusing on joint ventures, mineral exploration opportunities, revival of Pakistan Steel Mills, and areas for strategic economic partnerships.

On the first day of the INNOPROM Industrial Forum, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan extensively toured a number of industrial exhibitions demonstrating Russia’s technological achievements and manufacturing capabilities. The delegation took note of Russia’s impressive industrial advancements and evaluated prospects for collaboration between Pakistani and Russian enterprises. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying potential joint ventures aimed at benefiting both nations economically and industrially.

In the subsequent phase of the visit, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan held focused discussions with representatives of various Russian companies that expressed strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s mineral exploration sector. Utilizing these interactions, Mr. Khan highlighted Pakistan’s vast mineral wealth and presented the country as an ideal investment destination, underscoring Pakistan’s proactive policies that are designed to facilitate and attract foreign investors.

Central to the delegation’s visit was a significant meeting between Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan and Russia’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Anton Alikhanov. The two sides thoroughly examined options for the potential revitalization of Pakistan Steel Mills, analyzing both technical aspects and viable support strategies. Both countries expressed commitment in exploring opportunities that would revive and enhance Pakistan’s steel industry through Russian technological expertise and strategic partnerships.

Furthermore, the discussions between the Pakistani delegation and Russian officials extended towards bolstering bilateral trade and industrial cooperation. Mr. Khan briefed Russian counterparts about Pakistan’s latest Industrial Policy, outlining initiatives aimed at fostering an investor-friendly environment, facilitating foreign investment, and strengthening domestic manufacturing.

In closing his engagements, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan formally extended an invitation to Russian businesses to invest in joint ventures across various strategically important sectors in Pakistan. Identified industries with great potential for mutually beneficial collaboration included electric buses, locomotives, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural machinery. Mr. Khan emphasized that such partnerships would yield significant economic returns and industrial advancement for both Pakistan and Russia alike.

This strategic visit signifies a notable advancement in Pakistan-Russia industrial relations, representing a positive move towards wider economic cooperation and closer business engagement between the two countries.
