Pakistan Rwanda Parliamentary Group Boosts Bilateral Cooperation

The Pakistan–Rwanda Parliamentary Friendship Group held a meeting at the Parliament House in Islamabad to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties and promote mutual cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Aasia Ishaque Siddiqui and attended by members of the group as well as Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ms. Fatou Harerimana.

During the meeting, Ms. Siddiqui proposed the creation of a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Rwandan Parliament to foster stronger parliamentary engagement and cooperation. She welcomed the High Commissioner and highlighted the potential for enhanced government-to-government and business-to-business relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, banking, information technology, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Ms. Siddiqui also underscored the importance of Rwanda recognizing the situation in Jammu & Kashmir and supporting efforts toward a peaceful resolution in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. She assured that the High Commission of Rwanda in Pakistan would collaborate closely with relevant ministries to address and expedite outstanding issues related to Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) from Pakistan’s side.

The High Commissioner of Rwanda acknowledged the significance of advancing bilateral partnership and emphasized her country’s commitment to strengthening economic ties and defence cooperation with Pakistan. She highlighted plans to launch specialized training programs for defence officers, aiming to build institutional linkages and enhance capacity-building between the two nations.

Both sides agreed to speed up action on pending MoUs to ensure the effective implementation of joint initiatives. Members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group reiterated their commitment to furthering Pakistan–Rwanda relations and pledged full support for collaborative endeavors between the two countries.
